Hill tribe markets are the most colorful weekly event of hill tribes. Flower Hmong, Dzao, Tay, Nung tribes...they come to the market not only to buy or sell but mainly to sip wine which is believed to symbolize for friendship and connection. Each market brings a very single beauty. This is truly a rendezvouz for those who wish to experience more about tribe life and some ancient activities.

Bac Ha market is well-known for its naturally sub-tropical scenery. Tam Hoa plums are really a local specialty: sweet and fresh. This seems to be created by its own land, people and nature.
Average temperature here is 19°C and it’s not so cold as in Sa Pa. Bac Ha is specifically identified by each mount, each house and naturally-made carpet of white plum-flowers in spring. There are 14 ethnic minorities and the Mong ethnics count for 47% then the Dao, Tay, Nung, Phu La… Mountaineers take care of their horses as their properties, means of transport and close friends.
Besides plums, Bac Ha is reputed for its alcohol (made of maize). Maize is grown on high mountains, its low in productivity but high in nutrition. To make alcohol, it’s fermented with Hong My seed (the local only plant). Bac Ha alcohol is well-known due to its source of water. So it’s surely believed never to have faulted one in Bac Ha market. Visitors can see the locals selling their own alcohol without feelings to be cheated.

Brocades are for sales in the market or in shops or by street-vendors. There are hand-made or manufactured products. It takes a village-girl even half a month to make a brocade of 20cm long. Their skirts or costumes cost them long time to make. Their dresses express their patience, skills. Visitors can see the girls making brocades right in the market.
Traditional values and identities are well-maintained in the market. Such markets as Bac Ha, Coc Ly have really become rendezvous for visitors at home and abroad. There is almost no bargaining or competition here. Sales girls look quite naive, sincere. They go to the market mainly to meet people and exchange funs. Especially, there is a horse market in town-centre, each market-day there are almost 100 – 200 horses for sales or exchange.
Mong or Tay or Dao ethnics’ minority girls and boys, with their best dresses on, go to the market to relax and meet their friends. At sunset, they leave with a promise to see again.
Visitors to Bac Ha are opportune to understand the local traditions and customs, taste local specialties, meet nice people and know a land code-named: white plateau.

A ceremony was held on September 30 to commemorate the 570th death anniversary of national hero and world cultural celebrity Nguyen Trai (1942-2012) at his native land in the northern province of Hai Duong.

The commemoration is part of the autumn festival in Con Son-Kiep Bac, which is a complex of relics associated with the life of many Vietnamese heroes and scholars, including Tran Hung Dao, Nguyen Trai, Tran Nguyen Dan and Chu Van An.
Nguyen Trai, pen name Uc Trai, was born in Chi Ngai commune, Chi Linh district in 1380. He followed Le Loi in the resistance war against the Ming invaders and made great contributions to the nation’s glorious victories. He was also the author of a huge volume of literary works, including 110 poems and especially Binh Ngo Dai Cao (Great Proclamation upon the Pacification of the Wu), one of the country’s first declarations of independence.

In 1980, on the occasion of his 600th birthday, Nguyen Trai was recognised by UNESCO as a world cultural celebrity, an eminent military expert and a talented politician.

Also on the day, a poem night featuring Nguyen Trai’s immortal poems as well as songs praising the national hero and world cultural celebrity was organised at the temple dedicated to him in Chi Linh town.

The same day, a folk art performance and a seal opening ceremony took place in Kiep Bac relic to commemorate the 712th death anniversary of national hero Tran Quoc Tuan (also known as Tran Hung Dao).

The performance re-enacted the Hau thanh or Hau dong (going into trance), which was a traditional spiritual ritual in Kiep Bac to praise the merit, prestige and virtue of Tran Hung Dao, who was honoured as Saint Tran.

This year, the Hau thanh rituals will be performed until October 5, when the Con Son-Kiep Bac Festival wraps up.

Sapa Town in the northern mountainous province of Lao Cai has been voted one of the world's top ten spots for walking by popular travel guide Lonely Planet.

The other greatest places for walkers are the Grand Canyon in the US, Aoraki/Mount Cook Village in New Zealand, Lake District in England, Torres del Paine in Chile, Lauterbrunnen in Switzerland, Brecon Beacons in Wales, Kakadu National Park in Australia, Taman Negara in Malaysia, and Dartmoor in England.

According to Lonely Planet, walking can be the best way to experience a place.

“Heaven on earth”

For Vietnamese, Sapa is also a top holiday destination.
1.600m higher than the sea level, Sapa has a mild temperature of 15 to 18 Celsius degree.
Though this town welcomes visitors all year around, it is generally agreed to be most beautiful in April and May.
Before the summer, the weather may be a bit cold and foggy, and after the summer, the rain season sets in.

In April and May, Sapa is blooming with green pastures and flowers, many of which can’t be found anywhere else in the country, and few visitors fail to marvel at the beauty of the cloudy valleys here every summer morning.

Sapa is also home to many breathtaking spots such as Ham Rong Mountain, Silver Waterfall, Rattan Bridge, Bamboo Forest and Ta Phin Cave.

And this is here that adventurers can climb to Vietnam’s rooftop on Fansipan Mountain at 3.143m above the sea level.

Greetings from Paradise Cruises. We would like to share with you the following information, please read carefully and do not hesitate to contact us should you need any further clarification.

At 3.30pm on Wednesday 3rd October 2012, a day-boat owned by Đông Phong Cruise company (the Đông Phong 02, QN-1402), hit one of our tender boats (small motorised boat used for guest transfer from their main ship to excursion locations), leaving 5 passengers dead.

The Đông Phong boat was reversing when it hit and overturned our tender which was transferring 18 people from Sung Sot cave back to one of the Paradise Luxury boats, QN-6688. Our crews and management immediately coordinated with the local police and hospitals. 13 people were rescued with minor to no injuries but one person died on their tr
ansfer to the hospital by speedboat and 4 were pronounced dead at the scene.

All passengers of boat QN-6688 were then transferred to Tuan Chau Island and relocated in a hotel in Halong City.

Our management and teams, together with the Head of Tourism Department, have escorted all guests to the hotel and went to the hospital to assist two passengers injured who were kept under observation

All the victims were Taiwanese citizens. Their trip had been arranged by a Taiwanese tour operator and a local Destination Management Company (DMC) based in Hanoi. Right after the accident, both the Taiwan agent and the Vietnamese DMC were immediately contacted and informed and we continue following up with insurance companies and the Taiwan Embassy to assist and repatriate the guests and bodies.

We are doing everything in our power to support the victims and passengers of QN-6688, specifically by liaising with local authorities and coordinating with the local DMC that arranged the trip on our boats.

We have been cleared of all responsibility for the accident by the local authorities who are now involved in further investigations with Đông Phong, thus our operations will not be interrupted.

We remain at your disposal should you have any particular enquiries or questions.

We thank you in advance for your understanding and trust.

With my best regards,

Everybody loves to get some luxury vacation. Enjoy every 5 stars amenities and services. But the fact is not all of us have enough money to get all the luxury things. Most of us has limited budget to spend on vacation. The fact is how to plan a cheap vacation or no vacation at all. The term cheap vacation is not meaning you can’t have some fun on your vacation. It just means that you have to smarter with your money. Use your money wisely. Get a simple life on your vacation. These are some tips to make enjoyable budget friendly vacation…

Sleep at budget hotels or family run hotels: There is no lack of cheap accommodation in Sapa. These affordable yet comfortable hostels and mini hotels which can be found easily in the town. Do not think budget hotel is somewhat dirty or lack of facilities. Absolutely wrong! Most of budget hotel in Sapa are run by family, and meet all necessary conditions when staying there. Even some budget hotels are equivalent to 2 star hotel standards. You can sleep in a private room and spacious and comfortable room with a view no less for as little as $6 per person! With such a good range of hostels, you can forget about the expensive international chain of hotels. Otherwise, stay overnight at home stay in some ethnic minority villages surrounding Sapa town is not only a good idea for you to save your shoestrings but also an interesting experience when traveling to Sapa.

Eat Local: As tempting as they may be, try not to fall for ” The Great Australian breakfasts” in Sapa. They may remind you of home but they can cost as much as your accommodation – $9! Eat at local food stalls instead. It is worth taking the time to venture out to the back roads to look for local semi-restaurants” that serve dishes you at a fraction of the price.

Take a Walk: The best way to get around Sapa is on foot. If your next destination is not within walking distance, buy group tour itineraries from any local tour operators in the town. These options are way cheaper than the others offered by travel agencies in main cities. Another option is the moto taxi or “xe om”. This is an informal type of transport where local bikers drive you to your destination on their motorcycles or if you have motorbike driving license you can hire a motorbike and self-drive it. It is a cheap, fast and fun way of getting around.
Travel in the off season. Many people think that travelling to Sapa in the off season that can be taken a bit of a risk like bad weather or hotels are closed for renovation and retooling. However, the fact is not like that. Especially, if you travel to Sapa from September till the beginning November you will be not only rewarded with the blue sky, enjoy magnificent terrace paddy fields but also experience a number of traditional festivals. This is also the time most of hotels in Sa Pa will be looking to fill their rooms with discounts and upgrades, especially if you’re going on a special trip like a honeymoon.

Finding good deal on online hotel reservation. In recent years, making online hotel reservation in Sapa is getting more popular with both domestic and international tourists. By doing this way you will know the price you are going to pay and the availability of rooms will depend a great deal on when you are traveling. Otherwise, it may also be a good thing to ask relatives, friends and others if they can recommend a good hotel in your area of interest. You probably won ever know if someone hated or really enjoyed themselves at a specific hotel. If you are always travelling or staying in hotels, you can start using reward points that can be applied to hotel reservations. If you collect enough points, you might be able to get a free hotel room once in a while. This is a way for people who travel a lot to not spend as much money.

These had been some cheap vacation ideas for travelers. In case you plan your vacation well in advance and do the necessary preparations and research, you are able to find budget vacation ideas right for you. There are numerous cheap vacation packages which are especially formulated for budgeted travelers and you ought to try to avail them.

Sapa is about 400 km North West of Hanoi. It is about 9-hour train journey to Lao Cai, a town on the Chinese border, and than the 37km to Sapa will take 45 – 60 minutes car ride of beautiful views more than 1000 meters up into the mountains. A seat on the minibus will cost about $ 2.00, a taxi ride about $15-20.
Prices for the train ride vary according to both the type of seat purchased and the season during which you are traveling. The times around Vietnamese holidays are particularly expensive and tickets cannot be assumed available for same day travel, so book ahead if possible. Travelers are highly recommended to purchase a berth in a soft or hard sleeper car, though the trip in soft seat class is not intolerable. For a bed, expect to pay in the area of 150,000-300,000 dong (one-way). It’s best to travel with several of the night trains that leave Hanoi from 8:30 – 9:30 PM, arriving in Lao Cai from 5:30 – 7:00 am. Avoid taking the day trains and save yourself a lot of hustle.
